Pleat

Pleat is a small, independent retail outlet, situated in the South West Scottish fishing village of Kirkcudbright.

Opened in 2009 by Jane Forbes and Sunny Rathore, its aim is to provide grown-up, modern daywear for women.

We pride ourselves on cutting-edge styling, relaxed, practical separates and an ability to lift the most mundane wardrobe with a well-chosen accessory or two…

We value the cut, fabric and wearability of our chosen pieces and offer practical solutions for women who feel the need to update rather than reform.

We stock a surprising number of labels from Danish companies Masai and Jensen, to Scottish companies Lochcarron and Kearse & Boys. We also pride ourselves on our selection of small independent labels, made here in the UK. We look for the unusual, the well-made; modern classics with traditional materials and manufacture.

Our daywear philosophy is simple: Well-cut, comfortable separates are the foundation for easy, pain-free dressing with style!  Styles for evening that will take one through most smart occasions as well as providing modern, easy to wear clothing.

This season we have a neutral palette focussing on traditional looking fabrics married with cutting edge technology; herring-bone tweeds in the softest natural mixes, jerseys with stretch, cotton and bamboo, and light boucles from Italy.

Silhouettes are both narrow and full.

Cropped, slouchy trouser and layered tunic, jersey skirts and draped jersey jackets, or moments of full circle in boucle and dogstooth.

Dresses are neat, usually stretch jerseys, light knits and cosy cashmeres.

Cardigans, gilets, wraps and waistcoats add warmth where needed.

Not to mention accessories .. With a superb collection of accessories available, you will be guaranteed that perfect addition to complete any outfit.We have a dazzling array of beautiful bags, belts, scarves.

We are open from March to January, Monday to Saturday, 9am - 5.00pm,  sunday 10am -5pm and after hours by appointment.
